Many understand darkness to be the opposite of light and hate the opposite of love. In truth, darkness is the absence of light. Hate is the absence of love. More correctly hate is a subset of fear and fear is the opposite of love.
Only love truly exists for hate and fear are simply a lack of understanding or relating to love or to God. God and love are one and the same. It is the desire of God to extend himself and love is the only action or emotion that God is or that exists.
The human race bandies about the word love, as well as darkness, hate and fear. The world cannot know the immensity of the emotion love or the spirit God. It is impossible to describe deep, unconditional love. We may have experienced it to some degree at some moments of our life, but the deep love of God would be so great that we couldn't possibly experience it without transcending the human existence. So the love that we bandy about is not really love at all, it is a misrepresentation of the true meaning of love. - i.e. I love chocolate! or I love this person! Perhaps that is why our addictions can be so strong. We make this or that person, or chocolate, etc. like a god.
The spirit of God, or Holy Spirit or whatever you call that spiritual nature that is within your body, is the power of God. Since love wants you to have the desires of your heart, the power of God/love are in your desires and in your words. When you desire something strongly enough you create an image in your subconscious and every fibre of your being strives to make that choice a reality.
When your desire is not in line with the deeper sub-conscious love spirit - the misinterpretation is created out of the ego, or selfishness. Some like to fool or absolve themselves by believing the devil/satan made them do it - but it is really our own selfishness or lack of understanding or submission of/to the love spirit within ourselves. Thus we can obtain and achieve things that are not good or healthy for us. God does not desire for us to be sick or to hurt ourselves through some careless, evil or fearful act. We were created from love and thus were given free will to create in love's likeness or to disregard love's message and call instead what we have created - love, a false god of love.
Hope is not lost! The creator God/love is like the father of the prodigal son. No matter how many times we turn away from love or self-preservation, love always welcomes us back if we are sincere in our seeking. No matter how much evil stench we have on ourselves - love will never turn us away. In fact love will prepare a feast to honour and embrace our return - if only we are sincere.
Love is patient and kind. We seek love, but don't understand what it is we are seeking, yet we know there must be something better than the meager existence we are caught up in. If we call out to love, love will always answer. Love will lead us home to the spirit within. While we give love our shaky and frightened efforts, love will always extend the symbolic hand.
Through centuries and millenia, love's true message has been distorted ever more greatly. Through each generation the message of the ego has become more and more pervasive. That doesn't change the truth of love. It may make it more difficult to find our way home and more confusing to discern the truth of love. Truth and love are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
True love is within you. Love is not an emotion that you can find from outside of yourself. Love is the healing center of the existence of each of us. Loving our neighbour as ourselves is a difficult task if we don't first love ourselves. We must forgive ourselves of every mistake we have ever made. We may have to experience some fearful and emotional memories from our past. True forgiveness can only occur by facing our demons. If we have strength to carry on in the face of our own judgment and deal with our insecurities and our human weaknesses, we will come out all the stronger for it.
When we can truly understand that our mistakes were and still are simply the result of responding to our own insecurities and anxieties, we can begin the healing journey. We can learn that attack comes from fear and fear from attack. We can learn that no attack is justified, no fear is justified. Our task is to learn to understand why we behave the way we do. When we are willing to begin to understand why others attack us, we can understand the insecurity of others. We will realize their insecurity and fear is no different than ours - just a different story. Then we can learn how to extend an act of love.
When we can learn to love ourselves, and learn to love our neighbour as ourselves, we can finally start to heal. It will not be an easy journey. It will require effort. Healing the world is an extension of healing ourselves. The freedom that comes from understanding this simple, yet difficult truth will be the most liberating experience. To see the light in your neighbours eyes when comprehension starts to set in, is perhaps the greatest gift we will ever experience.
Healing the world starts with first healing your own world. Healing yourself starts with learning how to truly forgive and love yourself. Remember that God has already healed you. All we have to do is claim our freedom and our healing. Believe that you have already been healed, listen to the guidance from within, discern it's source and watch every day as the manifestation of your healing becomes more and more evident.
